Technique Tip: proper ankle and foot position with high heels
Align Fitness
When you raise up off your heel, ensuring proper alignment is important to strengthen the muscles, ligaments and tendons around the foot and ankle.
This quick video talks about how to 'feel' that in your foot, ankle and calf. For demonstration only, grab a small hand towel to place between your heels with your feet close together. If you drop the towel, it means your heels move more towards your pinky toes. We want our heels to align to the center of our feet, not off to the outside of the foot.
The trick is, once you practice with the towel and get this awareness, being able to maintain that alignment when your heels aren't close together, such as a normal first position or second position.
